New Orleans FOX affiliate WVUE and CBS affiliate WWL have announced separate partnerships with two different New Orleans newspapers.
WVUE is teaming up with NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune while WWL will partner with New Orleans paper, The Advocate.
Both agreements will add to the investigative and weather reporting and analysis for both stations and newspapers. WWL will also contribute sports reporting to The Advocate. While WVUE’s latest partnership with NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune includes breaking news coverage and entertainment reporting.
“We are proud to expand the partnership between the legendary The Times-Picayune, NOLA.com and the only locally owned television news station in New Orleans,” said WVUE president and general manager Joe Cook.
The Advocate announced it will work with WWL on a “handful of investigative reports each year” and WWL’s chief meteorologist Carl Arredondo will write a weather column for the paper beginning in July.
“We’re proud to partner with an outstanding group of journalists at The Advocate,” said WWL news director Bill Siegel. “I know both teams are excited to start working together on important investigative stories. We are all focused on providing excellent coverage of important issues to viewers and readers throughout the region.”
The WVUE partnership will bring together WVUE chief investigative anchor and reporter Lee Zurik with NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune’s investigative unit. WVUE’s weather team will also collaborate with The Times-Picayune environment reporter Mark Schleifstein. Schleifstein won the Pulitzer Prize in 2006 for his ongoing coverage of New Orleans’ flawed levee system before Hurricane Katrina.
Last year both WVUE and The Times-Picayune teamed up for sports coverage. WVUE said at the time, the partnerships was “just the beginning of a growing relationship between Fox 8 and the Times-Picayune.”
