Nebraska Sports Anchor Fired for Saying Goodbye to Departing Co-Workers

By Kevin Eck

Swifet KNOPThe North Platte Bulletin reports KNOP sportscaster Joe Swift was fired by the station after thanking two co-workers who were leaving the North Platte, Neb. NBC affiliate.

During broadcasts on Thursday and again Friday night, Swift took a minute or so on the air to thank two departing co-workers, expressing his respect and good wishes.

A few days later, Swift was fired. He said management called him in Wednesday and said they didn’t want the viewing audience to get the impression that the two employees were forced out, and Swift might have left that impression.
