NBC Universal Awards $1.2M in Grants to Non-Profits Selected by O&Os

By Merrill Knox

The NBC Universal Foundation is awarding $1.2 million in grants to 30 local non-profits across the country. The grants — awarded in the 10 markets where NBC owns and operates local stations — are designed to support “high-impact, progressive programs.”

NBC accepted applications throughout the summer in the categories of arts and media, civic engagement, community development, education, environment, jobs and economic empowerment and technology. Each NBC-owned station promoted the grant program and created a panel to review and select one winner and two runners-up.

“Local television stations have a unique opportunity to connect with the communities they serve to identify some of the most pressing social challenges that local residents face,” said Valari Staab, president of the NBC O&Os. “Our local stations are thrilled to support innovative programs that are generating positive change and making a difference.”
