NBC Stations to Sell Advertising for Comcast Regional Sports Networks

By Andrew Gauthier

NBC stations are about to become more entwined with Comcast’s regional sports networks.

NBCUniversal announced today that its local stations will begin selling national advertising for four Comcast SportsNets.  The sales partnership will be phased in over the next several months, with local NBC stations beginning to sell advertising for Comcast’s New England and Mid-Atlantic networks this month, followed by Northwest at the end of May and Philadelphia at the end of June.

The partnership enables NBC stations to serve up the valuable male demos of Comcast SportsNets to advertisers.

“Teaming up with Comcast Sports Group combines our winning sales organization and strong local stations with their unmatched and passionate fan base,” said Frank Comerford, chief revenue officer and president of commercial operations for NBC Owned Television Stations. “This addition to our national sales portfolio boosts our appeal to advertisers who are trying to reach consumers in some of the nation’s biggest markets.”

As part of the new sales organization, Joseph Gallagher has been tapped as VP of national sales for the regional sports networks, reporting to the NBC Owned Stations division.

NBCUniversal announced last April that Comcast would begin providing local sports coverage for NBC stations.
