NBC O&Os Debut Twitter-Sourced Local News Platform ‘The 20’

NBC Local Media has begun rolling out “The 20,” an experimental new program in which NBC O&Os curate the thoughts of 20 influential, local Twitter-ers in each market.

“The 20” is now available on the websites of New York’s WNBC and D.C.’s WRC as NBC plans to debut the Tumblr-powered platform on the sites of all of its stations in the coming months.

NBC describes the collection of local Twitter-ers, many of whom are journalists working for other media entities, as “the people worth following in your community right now.”

NBC also plans to include members of “The 20” on local newscasts.

“We can Skype in two or more of our 20 to have a facilitated dialogue around a topic,” Greg Scholl, president of NBC Local Media Platforms, told Lost Remote. “They’ll be a reoccurring part of local broadcasts.”
