NBC News has signed on to sponsor the New York City Drone Film Festival.
“NBC News is the ideal partner in our pursuit to promote the amazing possibilities of drones for aerial cinematography, news reporting and humanitarian efforts,” said Randy Scott Slavin, the Founder and Director of the festival.
The move makes sense for NBC News, since news organizations are somewhat patiently waiting for the FCC to allow the use of drones for newsgathering.
NBC News used drone footage of a frozen Niagara Falls shot from the Canadian side a few weeks ago on-air. That video has drawn over 800,000 views on facebook and 660,000 views on YouTube.
The festival is this Saturday in New York City.
