NBC Affiliates Will Share the Cost of Olympics

By Merrill Knox

NBCUniversal paid $4.3 billion this week for the rights to the Olympics for the next decade, and NBC affiliates are ready to help pick up the tab.

NBC Affiliates chairman Brian Lawlor, Senior VP of the E.W. Scripps stations, tells B&C, “The infrastructure exists to help pay for the Games, as we have in the past. That will continue.”

NBC, which also owns the rights to the 2012 London Olympics, will be covering the Games in 2014 from Sochi, Russia, and in 2016 from Rio de Janeiro. Locations for the 2018 and 2020 Olympics have not yet been determined.
