Mike Smythe Comes Out of Retirement to Lead KBSI

Mike Smythe, who retired as vice president and general manager of KFVS in November, has been tapped to lead KBSI, KFVS’s rival in the Paducah, KY-Cape Girardeau, MO market.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to return to the area and join the KBSI,” said Smythe, who will also oversee KBSI sister station WDKA.  “Having competed against the stations for so many years, I have a full appreciation and respect for their capabilities and market presence.”

Smythe spent thirteen years at CBS-affiliate KFVS.  He began as the station’s general sales manager before being promoted to VP-GM, a position he held for eleven years.

“We are pleased to offer Mike this position,” said Steve Marks, COO of Sinclair’s television group, announcing the move.  “His understanding of the viewers, the local businesses and the competitive broadcast landscape should benefit the stations particularly when you consider that he operated stations in the market for the past 13 years.”

In December, KFVS announced that Tim Ingram would replace Smythe as VP-GM.
