Meteorologist Tammie Souza Set to Return to Chicago’s WFLD ‘Very, Very Soon’

By Andrew Gauthier

“Yes, the badly kept secret is true,” veteran meteorologist Tammie Souza wrote on her Facebook page on Monday. “I will be returning to the airwaves on FOX in Chicago very, very soon. Hope you all remember me and will watch.”

The post, first spotted by the Chicago Tribune‘s Phil Rosenthal, was eventually deleted but Souza’s move from St. Petersburg’s WTSP to Chicago’s WFLD hardly needed to be confirmed since it’s been expected for weeks.

Souza, who has been WTSP’s chief meteorologist for two years, decided late last year to return to Chicago’s WFLD, where she had worked before moving to Florida.  Souza spent nearly eight years on Chicago TV, working for NBC-affiliate WMAQ before joining WFLD.

In December, Souza told the St. Petersburg Times that the move was “totally family-based.” Since Souza accepted the position with WTSP, her husband hasn’t been able to find the types of job opportunities that he had while they were in Chicago.  The couple and their son had been splitting time between Chicago and Tampa.

“I will miss Tampa and WTSP, but in Chicago my family will be in one place and I not miss another precious day with my son and husband,” Souza told Eric Deggans of the St. Petersburg Times this week.
