Patty Souza, the meteorologist for Sacramento’s ABC-affiliate KXTV, announced her resignation on Tuesday. Souza hasn’t been on the air since July, much to the disappointment of her many fans and supporters.

“After a very difficult decision, I have decided to leave News10 to pursue other interests and life dreams,” writes Souza in her announcement. “This is nothing but positive for me as my life focus and purpose has shifted in a different direction.”

Souza holds a degree in broadcast journalism and environmental science from Northern Arizona University, as well as a graduate degree in meteorology from the University of Memphis. She worked as a broadcast meteorologist in Montana, Memphis, and Orlando before returning to her home state of California.

Souza joined KXTV’s weather team in April of 2006, and began to report alongside Dale Schornack and Christina Mendonsa on the 5, 6, and 11 newscasts. She holds both the prestigious American Meteorological Society’s seal of approval and the National Weather Association’s seal of approval for her forecasts.

Souza says, “I will miss the strong spirit and companionship of the people… especially Dale and Cristina! They are the two most caring and talented anchors I have ever had the privilege of working with during my 18 year broadcasting career.”
