Maryland Anchor Celebrates 30 Years

ABC2 anchor and Maryland native, Jamie Costello, is celebrating 30 years of covering news in Baltimore this month.

“Jamie is our “Poet Laureate” of Baltimore,” said Kelly Groft, news director at WMAR ABC2. “In almost every situation, especially emotional news moments, he knows the right thing to say, the comment that condenses and encapsulates the moment for the viewer. That is the true mark of a professional who knows his audience extremely well.”

Costello is the 5, 6, and 11pm anchor at the Scripps-owned station. He also hosts features “Student Athlete of the Week” and “2 Good 2 Be True,” human interest stories focused on people across the Baltimore market.

WMAR says it will celebrate Costello’s milestone with stories and through social media posts at the end of May.

Costello grew up on the east side of Baltimore County in Rosedale. He attended the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland and spent a brief period at WHAG-TV in Hagerstown, Maryland, before joining WMAR in 1987.
