Maria Stephanos to Join WCVB

By Kevin Eck

Maria Stephanos will return to Boston airwaves Thursday as an anchor for ABC affiliate WCVB.

Stephanos, who has worked in Boston for more than 25 years, left Fox affiliate WFXT in September to “pursue new professional endeavors.”

She will co-anchor at 7 and 11 p.m. with Ed Harding, chief meteorologist Harvey Leonard and sports anchor Mike Lynch. The station says she’ll also co-anchor the 10 p.m. news launching Monday, Feb. 29 on MeTv Boston.

“I’m thrilled to be back on local TV!” said Stephanos. “WCVB is my new home, and I couldn’t be prouder to be joining this team of dedicated and talented journalists.”

She worked at WFXT for nearly 18 years. She was a reporter at WJAR in Providence, R.I., before that.

Heather Unruh will co-anchor the 4:30 with Ed Harding and will continue to anchor the 6 p.m. news.
