Magee Hickey, A Familiar Face in NYC, Joins WPIX

By Merrill Knox

After a brief absence, veteran anchor Magee Hickey is back on the air in New York — this time at WPIX.

Since 1982, Hickey has worked at five stations in the New York market — WNYW, WABC, WWOR, WNBC and WCBS. She worked at WCBS twice — from 1994-96 and then again beginning in 2003. She was told her contract would not be renewed at the CBS O&O this spring.

Now, she is back on the air at WPIX, New York’s CW affiliate. Her first time on the air was the 10 p.m. broadcast on Friday night. She is expected to be a fill-in anchor through the end of the summer, The New York Daily News reports.

As our friends at FishbowlNY point out, this is Hickey’s second stint working for Bill Carey. Carey, who is currently the WPIX news director, was the news director at WCBS in 1996 when Hickey and six other on-air staffers were fired on the same day.
