Mike Barras, vice president and general manager of KLFY in Lafayette, LA, has announced his retirement at the end of the year.

Barras started working at the CBS affiliate in 1961 as a cameraman. He joined the sales team after moving up through the production department. When Young Broadcasting bought KLFY in 1998, Barras was named general sales manager. Three years later, he was named GM of the station.

“In his more than half a century at KLFY, Mike Barras has become a legendary figure not just at Lafayette’s CBS station and within the community, but throughout the industry,” Young Broadcasting president and CEO Deb McDermott said in a statement. “I want to thank Mike for his many decades of service and for his steady hand during an historic era for television.”
