Longtime WGN Sports Anchor to Retire

By Kevin Eck

WGN sports anchor and reporter Rich King says he’s retiring in June.

He started his career at the Tribune-owned Chicago CW affiliate in 1969 after working there as an intern. He left a year later to work at WBBM Newsradio and then moved to the TV side before coming back to WGN in 1991.

“It is finally official,” King wrote on Facebook. “I am calling it quits on June 15th. the end of a 48 year career that wildly exceeded every dream I had when it began on that warm summer day in 1968. It is fitting it will end where it began, at WGNTV where I started out as an intern.”
