Meteorologist Ken Barlow is returning to the Twin Cities, where he worked for most of his career before jumping to Boston’s WBZ in 2006. KSTP, a Hubbard Broadcasting-owned ABC-affiliate, announced today that Barlow, who spent 16 years with rival KARE, will join its weather team in June.
“Ken may have left Minnesota but Minnesotans have never forgotten him,” said news director Lindsay Radford. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him back to town.”
Barlow served as WBZ’s chief meteorologist for 4 1/2 years but the station decided not to renew his contract in 2010. After being cut by WBZ, Barlow wound up in Sacramento, where he has worked as KXTV‘s weather chief since last summer.
“What a great opportunity to return to the place my family and I consider home,” Barlow said. “I am excited to get back forecasting weather for the people of Minnesota.”
KSTP hasn’t yet announced where Barlow will land in the schedule but it appears that the station’s longtime chief meteorologist Dave Dahl will continue his weekday evening duties.
Barlow left a lot of fans behind in Minnesota when he bolted for Boston. Someone even set up a “Hire Ken Barlow in the Twin Cities!” Facebook page last year while he was working for KXTV.
