After more than forty years at KCCI, Kevin Cooney is saying goodbye tonight.

Cooney announced he was leaving the Des Moines CBS affiliate in May. He started at the station in 1969 when it was KRNT and he was a studio floor director.

He went full-time in 1974 after graduating from Iowa State. His last broadcast is tonight at 10 p.m.

“It will be a bittersweet goodbye when tomorrow’s 10 p.m. newscast draws to a close,” said KCCI news director Dave Busiek. “But I know every person in this station is happy for Kevin to start enjoying more time with his family and friends right here in his hometown.”

“It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to Kevin tomorrow night,” said KCCI president and gm Brian Sather. “His hard work and dedication to journalism will always be remembered by his KCCI family and central Iowans. I know we all wish him the best in his next chapter.”
