Linda Hurtado Returns to WFTS Anchor Desk After Double Mastectomy

“Well, today is my first day back after being off for five weeks on medical leave,” WFTS anchor Linda Hurtado told viewers during Wednesday’s 5:30 p.m. newscast. “I was diagnosed with breat cancer, a disease that took both my mother and my grandmother. I was very fortunate that my cancer was caught early.”

Hurtado, who has been with the ABC-affiliate since 1995, underwent a successful double mastectomy operation in October and was able to avoid chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Since being diagnosed with breast cancer, Hurtado has devoted her time to helping uninsured women receive free or reduced cost mammograms. During her first newscast back, Hurtado shared an emotional story about the plight of uninsured women. Video inside…
