LIN Reaches Tentative Retrans Agreement with Cox

By Andrew Gauthier

LIN Media and cable provider Cox Communications have reached a tentative agreement on a new retrans deal just hours before their current carriage contract expires.

LIN, which oversees 32 stations in 17 markets across the country, has reached an “agreement in principle” with Cox, according to a statement, that is “subject to execution of a definitive contract.”

The agreement means that Cox avoids the type of drama that unfolded earlier this month when LIN, unable to reach a new retrans deal with DISH Network, pulled 27 stations from the satellite TV service.

A new deal with Cox will ensure that LIN stations in five markets along the east coast (full list here) will continue being carried on the company’s cable systems.
