KWGN Debuts New Set Inside Newsroom

By Andrew Gauthier

“We have a brand-new set,” KDVRKWGN anchor Deborah Takahara announced on Monday, during KWGN’s 7 p.m. newscast. “[It] really embodies our station, our brand, and our image: ‘Colorado’s Own.'”

“Yeah, it looks like a ski lodge around here,” added Jeremy Hubbard, Takahara’s co-anchor, alluding to the new set’s rustic stone pillars and homey accents.

The new set, designed by FX Design Group, marks the climax of a significant rebranding effort that ramped up a year ago under VP of news Ed Kosowski, who joined KDVR-KWGN last June.

Last summer, KWGN, Denver’s CW-affiliate, introduced new graphics and the slogan “Colorado’s Own,” while revamping its existing set to incorporate images of the Colorado wilderness.

KWGN’s new set is located inside the KDVR-KWGN newsroom space.  As NewscastStudio points out, the new set may signal the beginning of more changes at the stations, with KDVR possibly giving its studio a makeover.
