KTBS Sports Director Sets Record Straight Before Signing Off

By Kevin Eck

Tim Fletcher, sports director for KTBS in Shreveport, LA, has confirmed with TVSpy he will be leaving the station Monday but not before attempting to address rumors about his departure.

Fletcher sent TVSpy a copy of his facebook posting saying why he is leaving the ABC affiliate,

I proposed a plan that would allow me to continue working at KTBS; increase my reporting workload; but allow me to be home three nights a week after 7pm. The station, as is their prerogative, chose instead to accept my two-week notice dated 3/18/13. Basically, I pitched an ultimatum to the station and they made the choice to pass on my proposal.

The unconfirmed news about his departure was posted Wednesday by Arkansas TV News blog. In the comments section of the blog post, some guessed he was jumping to cross town NBC station KTAL for a salary of $150,000.

In addition to facebook, Fletcher also defended himself on Arkansas TV News, writing in part, “yo, home-slices. i was not forced out. i have not been offered a job at either of the competing stations–although, for $150K…i would have to consider it, despite the pay-cut.”

In his facebook post, the sports director told viewers he would continue his radio show on KWKH and sounded somewhat lukewarm in his praise of the station he was leaving, “I have mostly enjoyed my time at KTBS, especially the people I have had the opportunity to cover/get to know over the years.”

Fletcher also took on an anonymous comment on Arkansas TV News about his attitude that read, “My brother works at KTBS. Apparently Fletch is difficult to work with and seemed to think he was irreplaceable. I don’t know about channel 6 or 150k , seems highly unlikely.”

“To my fellow employees (even the one whose “brother” says I’m hard to deal with and feel irreplaceable–comments section of the tv blog) from 1999 thru today: I have enjoyed so many great times, and commiserated over so many rough times. It has been a blast to work with so many folks over the year… I “think” i’ve been a pretty good co-worker, not all the time, but MOST of the time.”

Fletcher left viewers with this final thought, “We will be around… looking forward to the next, great, big, leap!”
