KOVR Clarifies Report About Anti-Abortion Group Handing Out Flyers to School Kids

By Kevin Eck

Sacramento CBS owned station KOVR has issued a clarification to a story about anti-abortion group Project Truth passing out flyers to local school kids.

The Life Legal Defense Foundation, representing Project Truth demanded KOVR “Issue an apology to Project Truth for the false report. Report a follow up to the story correcting the falsehoods promulgated by reporter Anjalie Hemphill. Denounce the threats of violence and hate speech listed in the comments section of the story on the station’s website.”

“During our report, we interviewed Larry Blount, who lives across the street from the school and was upset by the fliers,” KOVR anchor Sam Shane told viewers. “A portion of the interview we aired may have created the impression that someone from the group, which calls itself Project Truth placed a flier on Mr. Blount’s car. A representative from Project Truth has told us that the group only distributed fliers on the public sidewalk in front of the school. We regret any confusion.”

Allison Aranda, senior staff counsel for Life Legal Defense Foundation, said in a statement, “We are pleased that KOVR chose to correct its misrepresentation of and false statements made about Project Truth, a pro-life group. It is always our hope that media will choose to be responsible and truthful in their coverage of this and other pro-life groups. The Life Legal Defense Foundation will help set the record straight when pro-life organizations are incorrectly portrayed by the media.”
