KOMU News Director Stacey Woelfel to Lead MU Documentary Journalism Program

MUJournalismAfter 24 years as the news director of KOMU, Stacey Woelfel is taking on a new role as the first director of the new Jonathan Murray Documentary Journalism Center at the Missouri School of Journalism.

KOMU, which is owned by the university, is the NBC affiliate in Columbia, Mo. Woelfel, who is also an alumnus of the Missouri School of Journalism, will step down as news director on September 1, 2014.

“I’m delighted that Stacey, who has already done so much for the School of Journalism with his superb leadership of KOMU-TV’s unique news operation, has agreed to take on this new challenge,” Dean Mills, the dean of the Missouri School of Journalism, said in a statement. “He’s a superb teacher and manager, and he has a deep commitment to documentary journalism.”

The Jonathan Murray Documentary Journalism Center was created with a $6.7 million gift from Jonathan Murray, a documentary journalist and reality television producer.
