KOKI Tower Standoff Heads into Day 5 as Tulsa Police Attempt New Negotiation Tactics

By Merrill Knox

Yesterday, we told you about a man who has refused to come down from the broadcast tower at KOKI since Thursday. The standoff with the man — who police have identified as William Sturdivant II — is still ongoing today, as police work around the clock to try to return him to safety.

Tulsa police told KOKI that they have reached out to negotiation teams across the country for advice. “We’ve played tapes of his family addressing how much they care and how much they want him to be safe,” Tulsa police negotiator Tom Milburn told KOKI. “In the sense that he’s in great danger as long as he’s up in the tower, what we want to accomplish is to maybe leverage his thirst to get him to come down.”

The incident has begun to get national attention — Fox News Channel did several segments yesterday using video from KOKI, which is a Fox affiliate.
