KOKI Talks to Retired Negotiator Who Coaxed Man on Broadcast Tower to Safety

By Merrill Knox

After a harrowing six days spent reporting on William Sturdivant II, the man who climbed the KOKI broadcast tower last Thursday and refused to come down until last night, KOKI reporter Adam Paluka filed one more report on the ordeal — an interview with Tyrone Lynn, the retired police negotiator responsible for Sturdivant’s safe rescue.

“We talked about his childhood,” Lynn said (watch above). “We talked my children. We talked about what was going to happen afterwards. We prayed a couple times.”

“It’s a good day for the city to help a young man who’s struggling through mental illness like that,” Lynn continued. “Hopefully he gets the help he needs.”
