Two KIFI reporters are recovering from injuries sustained when they hit a moose with their station vehicle last week. Stephanie Hale-Lopez and Christina Jensen were driving from Idaho Falls to Driggs to cover a balloon rally at 5 a.m. when the accident happened. Hale-Lopez, who was at the wheel, said the roads were slick from rain.
“Out of the corner of my eye, I saw this huge moose,” Hale-Lopez said. “I slammed on the brakes, the moose just kept walking in front of the car. We hit it. The impact was severe.”
Hale-Lopez, who said the “windshield had caved in, there was glass everywhere,” kept driving for more than a mile until she found a safe place to pull over. Both reporters were treated for major whiplash, and Jensen was also treated for a concussion.
