Houston CBS affiliate KHOU has hired Blake Mathews as its weekend meteorologist.
In July, Mathews announced he was leaving WJXT in Jacksonville because he wanted to be on-air full time. He’s worked at the station since December 2011.
“I learned a lot about myself and made lots of friends who have become my family,” he said at the time. “I’m not sure of my next stop but I will let everybody know once the details are finalized. Thanks for everything, Jax! You’ll always have a special place in my heart.”

Houston media blogger Mike McGuff, who first reported the news, says Mathews starts Sept. 6.
