KGO is canceling “7Live,” the interactive local talk and entertainment program on the San Francisco ABC O&O.

In a statement to TVSpy, KGO general manager Bill Burtoncalled the newscast “a bold experiment in locally produced TV.”

“We’re tremendously proud of everyone involved with ‘7 Live’ and their terrific work that earned an Emmy Award and other recognition,” Burton said. “Unfortunately, ‘7 Live’ was unable to build enough of an audience to justify the major financial commitment necessary to continue the show.”

News of the cancellation was first reported by Matthew Keys, a social media editor at Reuters who is a former KGO producer. Station management informed the show’s staff of the decision on Wednesday, according to Keys, who notes it is unknown whether production employees will be reassigned to work on the station’s other newscasts.

The 3 p.m. show, which is hosted by Lizzie Bermudez and Brian Copeland, debuted in September 2010. The final broadcast will be April 27.
