A Legendary Kentucky sportscaster is saying goodbye after 40 years. Rob Bromley announced his retirement on the 6 p.m. newscast Monday night, the Lexington Herald Leader reports.
“It’s been a privilege to work with Rob during my time at WKYT. He’s been a constant champion for outstanding sports coverage and a shining example of professionalism, friendship and respect. He is one of reasons why WKYT is such a great television station,” said Robert Thomas who’s been the news director at the CBS affiliate in Lexington since 2006.
According to the press release, “Bromley interviewed every University of Kentucky basketball coach since the days of Joe B. Hall leading the Wildcats.” Bromley was named the Kentucky Sportscaster of the Year in March by the National Sports Media Association. This summer he will be inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame.
“Rob is everything you want in a professional. He covered the University of Kentucky in a way which will never be equaled in the history of television in this city or state,” said Brian Milam, WKYT sports director. “It has been an honor to learn from him and call him a friend.”
Bromley’s last day will be in September.
