KCBD Back in Studio, Shows Aerial Photos of Plane Crash Damage

By Kevin Eck

Lubbock NBC affiliate KCBD posted aerial shots of the damage done by Wednesday’s plane crash that killed a local doctor and brought the station’s tower down.

After spending about 24 hours in the studio of Lubbock Independent School District, the station said it is back in its own building. KCBD was evacuated after a plane “hit the guy wire” of the station’s tower. The station said “about 500 feet of the 725 foot tower came crashing down.”

KCBD was evacuated for fear the remaining 200 or so feet could come down at any time.

On Thursday, around 6 p.m., crews pulled down what was left of the tower.

Power was restored to our building and the KCBD crew moved in just in time for the 10 p.m. newscast.

KCBD received new aerial photos courtesy of Ryan Short with Red Wing Aerial Photography.

Short took the photos before KCBD pulled down the rest of the tower.

KCBD is still waiting on the arrival of the temporary antenna before we can resume over the air broadcasts, but satellite and cable customers should be able to watch our newscast in the usual way.

You can also watch our newscast live on www.kcbd.com and on our KCBD mobile app.

Our general manager says we should have the antenna up and be fully operational sometime next week.
