Kate Bartley, John Bedell Named WHIO Weekend Anchors

Kate Bartley and John Bedell have been promoted at WHIO, Cox Media Group’s CBS affiliate in Dayton.

In their new roles, Bartley will be the station’s weekend evening anchor and Bedell will be the weekend morning and noon anchor. Bartley, who joined the station in 2009, has most recently been a general assignment reporter and anchor of the noon newscast on Sunday. Bedell has been a general assignment reporter since he joined the station in 2010.

“The promotions of Kate Bartley and John Bedell exemplify the strength of our News Center 7 team,” David Bennallack, senior managing director of content for Cox Media Group Ohio, said in a statement. “Kate and John are both positive forces in our newsroom and in our community, and have deep Ohio roots. DAYTON – October 17, 2013 – Cox Media Group Ohio’s WHIO-TV announced today on-air staff promotions and an addition to its reporting team.

Kate Bartley has been named WHIO-TV’s new Weekend Evening Anchor. Bartley, an Emmy-award winner, has been a general assignment reporter and the anchor of WHIO-TV’s Sunday noon newscast. She has also filled in on anchor shifts for 95.7 FM and AM 1290 News Talk radio WHIO.

Bartley joined WHIO-TV more than three years ago after graduating Summa Cum Laude from Ball State in 2009. She was a Fulbright scholar in Indonesia and started her journalism career while still in high school at WBCO-WQEL radio in Bucyrus, Ohio.

“Working in news is what I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m thrilled for this new opportunity,” said Bartley. “I’ve spent the last three years learning and growing and loving the people and places in the Miami Valley, and I’m ready for the challenge of leading our weekend newscasts.”

John Bedell moves to Weekend Morning and Noon anchor. Bedell began his career with WHIO radio in 2010 immediately after graduating Cum Laude from the University of Dayton. He then moved to WHIO-TV as a general assignment reporter, while still hosting Flyer Feedback on the radio. Bedell also has played a key role in WHIO-TV’s Touchdown 7 coverage of high school football.

Joining WHIO-TV as a general assignment reporter is Natalie Jovonovich. Jovonovich comes to the station from WYTV/WKBN in Youngstown, Ohio. She previously worked in Marquette, MI and interned at Cox Media Group’s stations WPXI in Pittsburgh and WTOV in Steubenville. Jovonovich is a graduate of Ohio University’s Scripps School of Journalism.
