Judge Allows Wendy Bell Lawsuit to Continue

Wendy Bell‘s lawsuit against former employer WTAE in Pittsburgh is still in play after a federal judge denied Hearst’s attempt have the lawsuit dismissed.

“U.S. Magistrate Judge Cynthia Reed Eddy rejected Hearst Stations’ attempt to have her suit tossed, saying Ms. Bell’s discrimination complaint “sufficiently raises a reasonable expectation” that she can prove her case,” reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The judge allowed discovery to proceed.”

Bell was fired from the Hearst station in March after posting racially charged opinions to her Facebook page. She claims she was fired without cause.

Her lawsuit alleges racial discrimination under the federal Civil Rights Act and states, “defendant fired Ms. Bell because of her race and therefore deprived Ms. Bell of the same right to make and enforce contracts as is enjoyed by white citizens.”
