Johnny Kane Set to Join KMBC as Sports Director

KMBC, the ABC affiliate in Kansas City, has named Johnny Kane sports director. His first day will be September 19.

Kane is currently sports director at virtual Topeka triopoly KSNT-KTMJ-KTKA. He will move to Kansas City, just 60 miles east, this fall. “Johnny’s passion for sports is exciting to watch whether it’s live in the field or in the studio,” KMBC news director Sherrie Brown said in a statement. “He comes with experience covering both the Chiefs and the Royals.”

While Kane was the sports director at KSNT, the station was awarded Prime Sportscast from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. At KMBC, Kane replaces Nick Griffith, who earlier this month accepted the sports director position at Denver’s KDVR.

“I’ve always approached broadcast journalism as a career in public service,” Kane said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my years in Topeka and look forward to establishing new relationships with the people of Kansas City.”
