Joe Poss Named VP, GM of WTMJ

wtmj logoJoe Poss has been named vice president and general manager of WTMJ, the NBC affiliate in Milwaukee. His appointment is effective February 17.

It is a move within Journal Broadcast Group for Poss, who has been general manager of WGBA-WACY in Green Bay since 2011. Before that, he was the station’s general sales manager for six years. He has also worked in sales at KTNV in Las Vegas, WSVN in Miami and KMSP in Minneapolis.

“With his successful background in broadcast leadership and media sales, and his great rapport with clients and colleagues, Joe will be a welcome addition to the TODAY’S TMJ4 team,” Debbie Turner, executive vice president of television for Journal Broadcast Group, said in a statement. “We are excited for the enthusiasm and expertise he will bring to the Milwaukee television market.”

Poss replaces Steve Wexler, who was named executive vice president of radio for Journal Broadcast Group next month. More in the official release after the jump.

“With his successful background in broadcast leadership and media sales, and his great rapport with clients and colleagues, Joe will be a welcome addition to the TODAY’S TMJ4 team,” said Debbie Turner, Executive Vice President of Television for Journal Broadcast Group. “We are excited for the enthusiasm and expertise he will bring to the Milwaukee television market.”

Since 2011, Poss has served as General Manager of Journal-owned WGBA NBC 26 and WACY MY 32 in Green Bay, Wis., where he not only managed Wisconsin’s official Green Bay Packers TV station, but developed the state’s only live, local sports broadcast offering on WACY. Prior to becoming General Manager for Journal’s Green Bay television duopoly, Poss was the stations’ General Sales Manager for six years. He also previously served as Local Sales Manager of Journal’s Las Vegas television station, KTNV-TV, and in Regional Sales and Account Executive roles at Fox Television stations in Miami and Minneapolis.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota.

Poss will begin in his new role on February 17. Journal Broadcast Group has begun a national search for a new General Manager for WGBA NBC 26 and WACY MY 32 in Green Bay.
