Jodi Johnston Leaving Buffalo’s WGRZ

By Kevin Eck

Jodi Johnston, morning anchor for WGRZ will be leaving the NBC affiliate for the new role of director of corporate media relations for First Niagara Financial Group.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in television and waking up with Western New Yorkers every day,” Johnston said in a statement posted to the station’s website.  “I am fortunate to have been offered an opportunity at an organization that shares my passion for this community.  This is a natural progression of the next phase of my career.”

During Johnson’s twelve years on the morning anchor desk, the Buffalo station climbed to number one in the ratings for that market.

“12 years is a long time to wake-up at 3am to be on the air delivering the news as professionally and gracefully as Jodi has,” said Jeff Woodard, WGRZ news director said in the statement.  “Her ability to connect with viewers, her genuine presence and demeanor, and her commitment to her community, will be dearly missed.”

Johnston, who will leave WGRZ in one month, was previously a program host for Adelphia.
