Jeff Vaughn to Anchor for WXYZ

Detroit ABC affiliate WXYZ announced it has hired Jeff Vaughn to co-anchor its 5 p.m. news. Vaughn will also report on business and automotive stories for the station.

“I am pleased to return to Detroit to join one of the best news teams in the country,” Vaughn said in a statement. “This is a sweet homecoming for my family. I look forward to getting re-acquainted with the viewers starting next week.”

Vaughn, who was let go from San Antonio CBS affiliate KENS in September, worked for Detroit NBC affiliate WDIV From 1999 to 2007.

“Jeff’s personal and passionate approach to anchoring and reporting make him a great addition to the WXYZ team and to the community,” said Ed Fernandez, Scripps divisional vice-president and vice-president and general manager of WXYZ.

Vaughn will begin reporting for WXYZ Thursday, January 10 and will join co-anchor JoAnne Purtan for the 5 p.m. news next Monday.

Before KENS, Vaughn worked for KSHB in Kansas City, MO, KMID in Midland, TX, and KCBD in Lubbock, TX.
