Evan Pappas is now preparing to take the reins at KOAA in Colorado Springs. Cordillera Communications announced that Pappas will assume the role of KOAA president and general manager on April 1, 2011. Pappas is taking over for David Whitaker, who announced his retirement in November but who will stay on through March.

“I am pleased Evan has accepted this appointment and confident he will continue the long tradition of success established by David Whitaker and his team at KOAA-TV,” said Cordillera president Terry Hurley.

Pappas comes to KOAA from KSBY in San Luis Obispo, CA, where he also served as president and general manager. Cordillera has replaced Pappas KSBY with Kathleen Choal, allowing him time to prepare for his new job and assuring a smooth transition after Whitaker ends his 12 years with the station.

Pappas will spend time with Whitaker in the coming months as he prepares to take over his position. In the meantime, KOAA staffers can speculate on what it will be like working for a new boss. The Colorado Springs Gazette provides a clue for now, describing Pappas as “an intense competitor.”
