In Miami, High Speed U-Haul Chase Takes Over Noon Newscasts

A man driving a U-Haul truck led police on a high-speed chase through the streets of Miami Friday afternoon.

Two of the Miami stations, ABC affiliate WPLG and Fox affiliate WSVN, were in the middle of the noon newscasts when the news broke. WSVN was the first to start following the chase at 12:21 p.m., with photographer Ralph Rayburn in its chopper and Alexis Rivera and Christine Cruz at the anchor desk. WPLG began covering it at 12:35 p.m. with Constance Jones anchoring.

WTVJ broke in at 12:32 p.m., returning briefly to “The Jeff Probst Show” while its chopper made its way to the scene. The NBC O&O returned to continuing coverage at 12:34 p.m. CBS O&O WFOR wrapped up its noon newscast at 12:30 p.m., and the station interrupted “The Young and the Restless” at 12:34 p.m. with Josh Benson anchoring.

The chase ended shortly before 1 p.m. when police smashed the window of the truck open to arrest the driver.
