Grand Forks’ WDAZ welcomes veteran broadcaster Charley Johnson, who will co-anchor the station’s 6pm and 10pm newscasts. Johnson has decades of experience in the Red River Valley and is a more-than-capable replacement for Milo Smith, who recently left WDAZ after 15 years as an anchor.
Most recently, Johnson served as GM, News Director, and anchor for KVLY-KXJB in Fargo. He left in May, citing personal reasons.
Johnson’s breadth of experience was certainly a major factor in his hiring. “He is the most recognizable face in North Dakota television news, and we are elated that he is bringing his wealth of news experience to WDAZ,” WDAZ News Director Cassie Walder said in a news release.
For Johnson, it’s an opportunity to get back to his broadcasting roots. “I started my career at KNOX Radio, so it feels very natural to come back here to help cover news. I’m very happy to get back into the newsroom environment, and I’m looking forward to working with Cassie and her team,” he said.
