By Kevin Eck

Pope Francis arrives in the U.S. tomorrow. We’ve heard from both the NBC and Fox-owned stations at his first stop in Washington, D.C. about plans to cover his visit.

Fox-owned station WTTG plans on going live at all of the Pope’s events. The station plans extra time given to the Holy Father during newscasts. The station also plans to use social media to keep viewers updated on his movements with the twitter hashtag #PopeinDC.

Leading up to the Pope’s visit, NBC4 Washington / WRC will air stories about the people and places the Pope is expected to meet and visit. NBC4 will also provide viewers with logistical and important information they will need to know to help them see the Pope and get around town. Several of NBC4’s news anchors will be reporting live from the field while its team of reporters will be located all throughout the Washington metropolitan region to cover all aspects of Pope Francis’ visit to the nation’s capital. WRC will also utilize its digital and social platforms, as well as its COZI-TV channel, to provide additional information for those who want to know more about Pope Francis’ visit. After the Pope departs Washington, D.C., NBC4 will send reporters to travel to New York and Philadelphia to cover Pope Francis’ events, directly.

From TEGNA’s WUSA:

“Our Pope coverage will been seen through the unique eyes of our anchor Bruce Johnson who was once a seminarian himself. He studied for the priesthood prior to launching his journalism career. He has been particularly interested in Pope Francis and covered his elevation to Pope in Rome. Bruce will field anchor the major events on the Pope’s visit. We will cover those events, the popularity of Pope Francis worldwide and the state of the Catholic Church in America.”
