Here’s one for the station promo department. How many stations can say one of their anchors in the Guinness World Records?

KTRK anchor Dave Ward, who is approaching 50 years at the Houston ABC-owned station, has been recognized for having the “Longest Career as a Television News Broadcaster,” by Guinness.

“Ward was hired as a news department reporter and photographer in 1966 and has served as an anchor of the KTRK-TV 6 PM newscast since 1968,” reads his entry. “Ward is known for beginning every newscast with the phrase, ‘Good evening, friends.'”

The tally to date is 49 years and 218 days. He reaches 50 years in November.

Houston media blogger Mike McGuff reports Ward had been “gathering papers and documentation over the last few months so Guinness has the proof!”
