Seven months after leaving “Good Day New York” for a spot at the evening anchor desk, Greg Kelly made his return to the WNYW morning newscast Friday.
Kelly, who has been anchoring the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts since July, is back alongside Rosanna Scotto after Dave Price asked to be let out of his contract with the New York City Fox O&O.
“You know we love Dave Price. Dave wanted to do other things,” Scotto said at the top of this morning’s newscast. “Dave and I were friends before this, we’ll be friends after this, and we wish him well on his new venture.”
On their first morning back together, Kelly and Scotto acknowledged the well-wishes that flooded in from fans and colleagues alike.
“Gregory, welcome back. I feel like I’m speaking with my New York television parents,” reporter Robert Moses said as he wrapped up a live shot from Sea Bright.
Kelly and Scotto entered the studio and made their way to the show’s curved couch at the top of the 9 a.m. hour holding hands before spending a few minutes reminiscing about their first stint as “Good Day” co-hosts. Kelly also took a minute to congratulate Steve Lacy, who will replace Kelly as the station’s 6 and 10 p.m. anchor.
“Steve is going to be great and he’s got a great colleague in Dari Alexander, so good luck to them both,” Kelly told Scotto. “Meanwhile, it’s you and me for the duration.”
