GOP Candidates Make Final Pitch on WMUR

By Andrew Gauthier

Counting down the hours before the New Hampshire primary, WMUR invited Republican presidential hopefuls into its studios on Monday evening to deliver their final pitches to voters in the state.

Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, and former Louisiana governor Buddy Roemer all appeared live in front of the WMUR cameras during the ABC-affiliate’s 5 o’clock hour on Monday, asking New Hampshire voters–many of whom are still undecided–for their support.

Newt Gingrich was also supposed to appear but he apparently got held up at a town hall meeting and couldn’t make it to the station in time.

Roemer kicked things off, followed by Paul, Romney, Huntsman, and finally Santorum.

For Roemer–by far the least visible of the candidates during the run-up to the primary–it was an opportunity to introduce himself to voters. For the other candidates, it was a final chance to hit their campaign points while distinguishing themselves from the other candidates, especially Romney, the front-runner.

For his part, Romney highlighted his personal ties to the state.

“You know, I’ve been coming to New Hampshire now, I think it’s close to 40 years,” Romney told viewers. “[My wife] Ann and I, and the boys, would come up to the lakes region and to the mountains to see the foliage. We know New Hampshire pretty well.”

WMUR’s video player doesn’t allow embedding so here are links to each of the candidates’ pitches…
