“What most people don’t realize about me is that I started in Chicago at The Tribune, WGN,” Ruben once said about working at KTLA. “And when they found out that I was in Los Angeles, the Tribune had to pay $550 million to buy the station to get me back.”

“He was a true pioneer in the television news business whose legacy is still felt today in the KTLA newsroom,” said KTLA news director Jason Ball.

Ruben was 80.
