George Maupin Signs Off from Spokane’s KHQ

George Maupin, KHQ‘s longtime morning weatherman, said goodby to viewers this Friday after nearly twenty years at the Spokane NBC affiliate.

Friday morning’s newscast was dedicated to the local fixture with friends and family dropping by the set to wish the weatherman well.

Maupin, a Vietnam War veteran, joined KHQ’s weather team in 1993.  The station’s website added a little more color to the morning weatherman’s bio saying he started his career in Palm Springs.

George says that he got into television because he was “bored with my regular job…I decided to try something that would be harder and stretch me and perhaps take me places I would otherwise never go.”

Between Las Vegas and his current position as a morning weatherman on KHQ, George has been a reporter, a “week-in-review” talk show host, editor of a monthly Quarter-Horse magazine, a news director for an all-news radio station and spent a number of years as a television newscast producer.
