Former WTMJ Newscaster Turned Pastor Has No Regrets

In August, WTMJ‘s Tom Murray made the transition from local TV anchor and reporter to associate pastor a local church.

“I am undeserving and unqualified for this job,” Murray told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “But what I’m thankful for is that God has been using insufficient people for thousands of years.”

According to the Journal Sentinel the move was no surprise to those who knew Murray.

“Tom is deeply passionate about his faith, but he is also passionate about journalism,” said WTMJ meteorologist Jesse Ritka.”It seems like (being a pastor) is something he wanted to do. It was something that was a good fit.”

Murray’s wife, Jennifer, said she had an inkling before her husband did that “he might be called to ministry.” That was four years ago when he started helping lead the church’s big musicals at Christmas, Easter and the Fourth of July.

Murray even played the role of Scrooge in the church’s productions of “A Christmas Carol.”

“I’ve asked Tom, ‘Do you miss being on TV?'” she said. “He said, ‘No,'” adding that he would be on a different kind of television, the screens in the church sanctuary.
