Former WVLT sports anchor Justin Kropff died of cancer Friday.

According to the Knoxville, Tenn. CBS affiliate, Justin had been fighting an aggressive form of melanoma for the past three years. “Our friend was just 39-years-young,” said sports anchor Rick Russo on the station’s 11 p.m. newscast.

The station also announced a go fund me account to help the family. Click here for that link.

“What a thrill it was to have him around us,” said Russo. “The definition of happy go lucky, he did always bring joy to the office and all our viewers here in East Tennessee. We love you buddy! Our prayers to his wife Alison and the Kropff family.”

Kropff is married to former WVLT anchor Allison Kropff, who now anchors at WTSP in Tampa, Fla.
