Former Boston, Atlanta Anchor Roy Hobbs Has Died

Roy Hobbs, who has anchored in markets from Boston to Birmingham, and spent 7 years at WAGA in Atlanta, has died.

For the last 8 years Hobbs has been the CEO of Hobbs Communications which advocates on issues of depression and addiction. In its obituary, WAGA reports Hobbs “had long battled health problems, including depression and addiction.”

Most recently Hobbs had anchored for WRDE in the Delmarva Peninsula. Before that, from 2066-2010, he anchored at ABC 33/40 in Birmingham. From 1996-2003 Hobbs anchored WAGA’s 5 p.m. news. He came to Atlanta from Boston where he was an anchor for NECN and UPN 38 from 1991-1996. He got his start in TG at WTVF in Nashville.

A cause of death has not be revealed. He was 64.
