ABC’s “Good Morning America” is projected to win the week of April 9 in the morning show ratings, beating NBC’s “Today” for the first time in 16 years.

“Today” has been on top for 852 weeks straight, since December 1995. “GMA,” which has been slowly gaining ground for the past year, topped “Today” on Friday by 333,000 Total Viewers, enough to put it over the top by 13,000 viewers for the week. These are preliminary projections, with final Nielsen numbers out Thursday morning.

“Everybody’s thrilled and cautiously optimistic that this holds up for the final numbers on Thursday,” an ABC insider tells TVNewser.
