Fire Pulls Fort Worth Station Off the Air

An electrical fire at the Fort Worth studio of KXAS-TV (Channel 5) broke out last night, interrupting the 10 p.m. broadcast.

The one-alarm blaze caused all personnel to evacuate, but no injuries were reported.

The building was released back to Channel 5 personnel around 11:45 p.m., said Tim Hardeman, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman.

Damages are estimated at $405,000, but systems are mostly operational, according to an NBC 5 report.

Brian Hocker, vice president of programming, said the fire caused personnel to shut down power during the 10 p.m. newscast, and the station was off the air for about three hours.

The rest of the newscast and the majority of NBCs late-night lineup did not air. More…
